What does this mean for LMs?

So, what does all of this mean for Learning Managers? It means that there are so many opportunities to provide various, flexible and engaging activities inside and outside the classroom for our learners.

Due to the variety available, there is now no excuse to have bored students, who are not actively learning – and I have only just touched the tip of the huge range of e learning tools available to LM’s. There are so many more technologies out there that can be employed in a learning context – things such as Flickr, Webquests and Google Earth.

The reason why it is so important to employ these technologies is that engaging tasks are the key to students actually learning and retaining knowledge. Gone are the days of ‘chalk and talk’. Now it is all about discovery, interactive and discussion. It’s about deep understanding and these technologies make it easy to achieve.

  1. Hi Kelly,

I really like how you have summed it all up. There are so many ICTs available and are so easy to use that there really is no excuse for educators not to be using these to engage the digital native students.

    Cheers,

  2. Hi Kelly,
I agree with you that students need to be engaged in order for them to be learning. However the days of chalk and talk are not gone, they are still required as 'back up' for the days that technolgy isn't working and unfortunately this does seem to occur quite a lot with in the e-learning spectrum. I do beleive once this area of inconsitency is overcome then it will be an exciting and engaging road for any LM.
    Cheers

  3. Hi Kelly
I love your expression Talk and Chalk (and sleeping in the back row for those less 'engaged' students) Today with the wide variety of ICTs it must be so much easier to get the students actively learning. Naturally there is still a great deal of responsibility on the learning managers to keep up to date with the technology and to really want their students to engage. To that end it is still so important to have teachers that are passionate about what and how they teach. Which so many of my colleagues on this course seem to be. I hope Maxine gets such dedicated teachers when she gets to school.
    cheers
    Michele
